Ick....

This morning when I was working out I felt this pain in my shins that just kept increasing, it felt way too much like split shins for me to dare keep pushing.
If it's just mild beginnings I can probably get it to heal in about a week or so, which means no running for at least a week.
Needless to say, I don't like it at all, but better to be safe than sorry.

I think I'll substitute it with slow but long walks, power yoga and up my resistance training while cutting back on food.
That should do the trick, I believe.

Slow day, because of this, but I am looking forward to taking some pictures and sending them to my grandmother tomorrow and starting my fitness centred blog.

Other plans for the near future will include: reading a lot about yoga, digging into my visa application and watching the footy the coming weekend.

IKEA is a lifesaver.

I don't think I knew until I was actually standing there in the IKEA food section with the "Kalles creamed smoked roe" and the herring in front of me how much I love Swedish food.
Now, admittedly, I got overly excited and spent waaaaay too much money, but it is worth it.
Pickled herring is one of my favourites, specially the mustard pickled ones.
But life is so much tastier when you've got "Kalles" and rye crisp bread.

It's quite interesting how big of a part food plays in any culture. I still have some things I don't think I'll be able to get my hands on here, but heck... I'd given up hope when it came to the pickled herring six months ago.

It took me this long to get hubby to actually go to IKEA, but wow, once we got there he had a really good time.

So far today I've almost polished off a whole jar of pickled herring (dill flavour) and I expect these jars to be gone before the coming weekend is over.
Oh well... There's always next month! :)

Buzz Buzz

I've been so buisy today it's not even funny.
I finally got up around a decent time and waved goodbye to my dear husband who had to go to Miranda for a job searching class.
I have no idea what it's supposed to be good for, but... whatever.

After that I had a cup of green tea and then spent 20 minutes doing intervals on the treadmill. Then breakfast, and coffee. Then I spent some time cleaning the room, cleaning the kitchen, made lunch, did some dancing and weight training, had another cup of tea and a shower... and then, finally, hubby came home.
After that I've been completely exhausted.
I still managed to get 30 minutes of playing the guitar into this day as well.

It's not even 7pm yet and I am about ready to pass out on the bed and sleep.

I forgot how tired one can get from staying busy, and I haven't even had time to think all the thoughts that usually buzz around my brain, and now I don't have the energy to.

I've been eating healthy as well, tune, egg whites, soy sausage and salad. (and pasta)
I feel all bloated and warm and icky, but I really do think I'll be able to sleep tonight, and that feels great!

Small Pleasures

I've been thinking a lot about the small pleasures in life lately. The little things that I love and don't really feel right without, things I take an almost juvenile pleasure in acquiring, drinking, eating, doing... or whatnot.

Here's a small list of such things.

1. Cups Of Tea - I take pleasure in buying the cups, (They have to have a certain feeling about them), buying the tea, (there's few things I enjoy more than discovering new herbal teas or infusions), brewing the tea... and finally drinking it. A home is not a home without tea.

2. Books - Searching for almost an hour for the right books, buying them and reading them, preferably with a cup of tea. Even just looking at books I get pleasure out of. When me and hubby finally get a house we WILL have a library. A whole room, full of books with two nice armchairs and a small table in between the armchairs to keep our tea on. Nothing more, except a good lamp.

3. Candles - Especially scented ones. My favourite scents are cinnamon and/or strawberry. They just bring so much atmosphere to a room. I can just sit and bask in candlelight for hours.

4. Acoustic Guitars - Someone just strumming an acoustic guitar... it can be me, it can be my friend... it can't be my husband though. He does not have a musical bone in his body.

5. My cat purring - He has the funniest purr, and it's always nice to have him lay next to me, put his paw on my arm, look at me and purr.

6. Cooking for my husband - I love it. I love to cook food and then watch him enjoy it. I love cooking anyone food and watching them enjoy it, but especially I love cooking for my husband.

There are probably more things, but those are the ones that stand out to me right now.

To Draw Or Not To Draw

I admit it. I have been wanting to make my own web comic for a couple of years now, and seeing as how I recently moved away from all family and friends now might be the time to really take it up as a form of visual blogging.
I quite like the idea, however there is one big problem with it. I don't know if my mediocre drawing abilities and extremely boring life is worth putting into such a medium.
Granted, I have read a few extremely entertaining ones made by people who probably lead just as boring lives as I do, but do I have enough talent?

Most likely it would be a mix of my life now and my life back when I was still in Sweden. And an instalment of Sweden versus Australia in different matters would probably be fairly entertaining...

And yes, my mediocre artistic abilities are probably just as good as a lot of other web comic artists were when they first started out. (if not better than a few of them)
However my skills in drawing environments have never been tested, and neither has my ability to dedicate enough time and energy to actually get an ongoing project under way, so we'll see where this ends up.
I've promised my good friend Tim I'll give it a try, so a good try I will give... and soon.
I've already made plans to kill three birds with one stone by taking reference pictures of the neighbourhood for my comic, send a few to my grandmother so that she can see how I live and get some exercise at the same time, provided the weather is allowing it tomorrow.

Oh well, back to making mediocre sketches and sip this scotch and cola my brother in law was kind enough to donate.

The Endless Bimbo Blogs And Reality TV

Okay, I know it's juvenile to sit here and bitch about bimbos and their blogs, especially since I obviously have read some of them.
I don't really follow that many blogs.
I have one that I read somewhat regularly and that is this one: http://bellaeklund.blogg.se/
Mainly because it gives me added motivation to work out.

But what bugs me is the complete lack of laid back, tomboyish, partying, artistic, cool chicks blogs (in written form)
I've found a couple of them in web comic and/or vlog form, but close to none in regular written blog form.

Where are all the rugby loving, laid back, rock digging women? Am I just not finding them for some reason?
If anyone might stumble over this blog and knows about one, let me know.

I am sick and tired of cutsie little blond (or brunette) girls in the newest fashion showing their newest shoe finds and discussing celebrities. (Don't get me wrong, I love shoes!)
Sure, I talk about celebrities every now and again. I suppose Darren Lockyer is one here in the land of OZ, but he's a footy player.
And yes, occasionally I might bitch about Meghan Fox until my face turns blue and I almost pass out from oxygen deprivation... but I'd like to think I'm a bit better than a lot of the women out there.

I'd also like to read a blog where the writers favorite books are not sex and the city or some other chick lit... I'd rather read a blog by someone who occasionally reads Shakespeare and can understand it. Or Nietzsche!? Or Voltaire!?

But then again, how many women besides me adores footy, drinks beer, lift weights, likes to read Nietzsche and Edgar Allan Poe, is a tomboy, mainly listens to rock and have a freakish obsession with Japanese food and the Finnish language. I might just be a bit too unique.

If I read one more blog that features discussions about American/Swedish Idol, Anna Anka, any reality TV show and/or Beverly Hills, or whatever is the idiotic drama addiction for people these days, I might just hurl.

For goodness sake! If you're going to watch TV, watch Doctor Who, House or something semi-reasonable. Not that mass produced Hollywood drivel.
And I know reality shows can be addictive, but come on... it's gone too far.
Read a book for once. It seems like most of the people out there never read anymore.
And when I say read, I mean something with a little more substance than this weeks Cosmopolitan... or even Women's Health or Oxygen. (While the last two are great magazines they do not hold a candle to proper books)

Personally I suggests Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes to anyone. Or even Edgar Allan Poe's short stories. If you can't get through it because it's too complex, you probably need to go back to school.
If you want some really good reading, grab Lord Of The Rings and go crazy. Or the Stand if you're more of a modern kind of reader. Stephen King rocks.

Books are good, Reality Tv is bad. Idol is a horrid travesty and life is too short to be wasted on watching it.
(While you're at it, listen to some nice "pre-auto-tuning-music". I suggest The Beatles for you pop fans, Deep Purple or Black Sabbath for the rockers and some nice Fleetwood Mac for those of you with really good taste)

I'm off to read some Edgar Allan Poe and then I'm going to watch Dogma (Kevin Smith Rules!)

Trying To Find Balance

I hope I'll be able to stick with this blog, with the writing and updating of it.
I am quite a fickle person when it comes to blogs and journals and I constantly delete or throw things away, I am going to try and stop such behaviours from now on.

The NRL season has come to an end, and decent rugby league will have to wait until May, when the nationals start.
I am a bit sad about it since my primary entertainment for the weekend is now gone. I have one match on dvd, but watching the same game over and over again will probably get old very quickly.

It's quite impressive how quickly I took to rugby league when I first came to Australia. My husband doesn't like it at all, and I had to watch it by myself once or twice, when my father in law was away, but I still followed some teams religiously.

Brisbane Broncos became my favorites straight away, mainly because of their captain, Darren Lockyer. My husband sometimes jokingly calls me a traitor because his favorite team is St George Illawara Dragons, but I don't think I will change my favorite until Darren retires.

The main reason for my interest in the Broncos and it's captain is the way their game is played. Darren Lockyer might not be the main try scorer these days (seeing as this was my first season watching NRL I might have missed his glory days, but he's still the best player I've ever seen) but his play making abilities are remarkable and his seemingly supernatural calm on the field continue to amaze me.

NRL also made me get my but out of the sofa during the days and actually start to work out again. I might not be losing weight very quickly, but that is to be expected after all... I am working mainly for muscle growth and the fat goes away as the muscles grow, leaving me looking more toned and slim, but without that much loss in weight.
It's quite nice to be able to lift my husband and carry him for a short time after what seems to be minimal effort regarding my fitness.
I am almost scared to see how quickly things will happen when I eventually get into it and start doing some real work.

This weekend is going to be interesting. My husband and I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary, and despite lack of money and a weather forecast predicting rain and strong winds we will most likely have a good anniversary.

Now I'm off to check emails and then watch some House or Scrubs on dvd.
